Biography
Eisenstadt Yehoshua was born in the town of Kletsk in the family of the local rabbi Meyer Moishe Eisenstadt. While in the ranks of Hovevei Zion, he visited Eretz Israel in 1887, but a year later he returned to Russia, where he became one of the founders of the secret organization Bnei Moshe (along with Ahad Ha-Am .
In 1890 he returned to Eretz Yisrael with the founders Bnei Moshe. He served as secretary of the executive committee of Hovevei Zion in Jaffa . Soon moved to Jerusalem .
He wrote numerous articles and reports on the life of Yishuv , which were published in the newspaper "Ha-Zvi". In 1893–1895, together with I. Gur, published a bulletin about the life of the Jews of Eretz-Israel - “Mihtavim me-Eretz-Israel” (“Letters from Eretz-Israel”).
One of the founders of the Jewish gymnasium and the People’s House (Beth Ha'am) in Jerusalem . At the beginning of World War I settled in Switzerland . In 1912 his collected works were published. The remains of Barsilai were transported to Jerusalem . A street in Tel Aviv is named after him.
