Afro-Japanese Katanga

In the 1970s, the increased demand for copper and cobalt attracted the Japanese to the mineral-rich south-eastern region of Katanga province .

Over the 10-year period, more than 1,000 Japanese miners moved to the region, in exclusively male camps. Arriving without a family or spouse, men often sought social interaction outside the camp. In search of intimacy with the opposite sex, which sometimes led to cohabitation, men openly searched for interracial acquaintances and relationships, mainly in the local community. As a result, a number of Japanese miners became fathers for the children of Congolese women. However, most of the children of mixed races died as a result of these unions soon after birth. Numerous testimonies of local residents show that the children were poisoned by the chief doctor and nurse (Japanese) of the local hospital. At the same time, most of the miners already had families in their native Japan.

In practice, many mothers of Katanga were forced to hide their children and not to transfer information about their birth to the hospital. Other women hid the child in rural or remote areas, as Afro-Asian children were killed in the city by Japanese officials. Today, fifty Afro-Japanese have formed an association of survivors of the "infanticide in Katanga." The organization has hired legal advice to formally investigate the murder. The group submitted a formal request to both the Congolese and Japanese governments, but to no avail. Most of these people do not have documents confirming their birth, since they were not born in a local hospital. The total number of victims is unknown [4] .

Equatorial Guinea

In the middle of the XIX century, about 500 Chinese workers and servants were brought to Equatorial Guinea , along with people from India , hidden on the island of Fernando Po via Macao occupied by Portugal [5] . Although most of these servants returned to their homeland at the end of their slavery, few remained, settling and marrying the local population. One example is Francisco Kasu, an immigrant worker from East India , which remained in the city of Moka . He married the daughter of one of the last kings, Bubi having given birth to several children of equatorially Indian-Indian descent.
