Biography
Nikolai Dunichev was born on December 19, 1919 in the village of Plavsk (now a city in the Tula region ). After graduating from junior high school, he worked in the public utilities system. In 1943, Dunichev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. From the same year - on the fronts of World War II. By June 1944, the Red Army soldier Nikolai Dunichev was a reconnaissance platoon on foot reconnaissance of the 334th Infantry Regiment of the 47th Infantry Division of the 6th Guards Army of the 1st Baltic Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Vitebsk region of the Byelorussian SSR [1] .
On June 25, 1944, Dunichev took an active part in the battle for the Obol railway station and the village of Zakharovo, Shumilinsky district . He personally destroyed the German self-propelled artillery Ferdinand , contributing to the advancement of the unit, and several dozen enemy soldiers and officers. In that battle, Dunichev died [1] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, Red Army soldier Nikolai Dunichev was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin and Glory of the 3rd degree [1] .
In honor of Dunichev, a street was named in Plavsk and a stele was installed, and an obelisk was also installed at the site of his death [1] .
