The Albanian troops , or the Albanian army , - in the Russian Empire, an army ( regiment ), formed in 1769 by Count A. G. Orlov-Chesmensky from the Greeks and Albanians who served in the Russian fleet ; after 1774, settled in the Ekaterinoslav province ; in 1797 it was renamed the Greek Infantry Regiment , and then - the Balaklava Greek battalion , which was disbanded in 1857 [1] .

At the conclusion of the Kuchuk-Kainardzhiysky world, many Greeks and Albanians who served in the Russian fleet during the war with Porta , wished to remain in Russian service. Greek Regiment
At the same time, a Greek regiment was established, divided into 12 ecatontarchies or companies, which received the name from the ancient Greek cities: Athenian , Thebes , Corinth , etc. In 1797, the regiment was named the Greek battalion and was transferred to Balaclava . [2]
Albanian Division and Battalion
From the Albanians the Odessa division and the Odessa battalion were formed, which were subsequently abolished [2] .
Only the Balaclava Greek half-battalion operating in the Crimean War continued to exist [2] .
