Journey to the Edge of the Universe is a documentary directed by Yawar Abbas , a joint project of National Geographic and Discovery Channel . The picture simulates a stepwise movement from planet Earth to the likely edge of the universe . Almost 100% of the film is mounted from computer graphics [1] . It was first shown in December 2008 .

The film was shot in the form of a virtual journey from the Earth to the edge of the Universe; as you move away from the Earth, the speed of movement increases from space to the speed of light . According to the chronology of travel, the solar system will be overcome in one day (each planet in the system is described in detail, attention is sometimes paid to the satellites of the planets), after four light years the journey will reach the closest star to the Sun - Alpha Centauri . At a distance of ten light years from the Sun, the stars will begin to merge into a single point. After 100,000 light-years, the spiral line of the Milky Way will become visible. Further galaxies , black holes , a cluster of galaxies .
Computer graphics of the film were created on the basis of data obtained about the Universe by the Hubble Space Telescope. The film raises the themes of the presence of life on various planets, the possibility of using the resources of the planets, and a number of other issues.
The narrator’s voice-over for the American version of the film was voiced by Alec Baldwin , for the British version by Sean Pertwy .
