The presidential election in Mongolia was held on May 18, 1997. [1] Natsagiin Bagabandi was elected President from the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party , who was very ahead of incumbent President Punsalmaagiin Ochirbat from the Social Democratic Party, which was supported by the Democratic Union coalition. [2]
