Slobozhansky (orchestra)

“Slobozhansky” is a youth academic symphony orchestra, the only professional full symphony youth orchestra in Ukraine [1] . The abbreviated name is ISSO Slobozhansky.

Created for talented young musicians 25-28 years old, who are studying at the senior courses of the Kharkiv National University of Arts named after I.P. Kotlyarevsky , for graduate students or graduates - young teachers [1] .

The artistic director of the orchestra is People's Artist of Ukraine, Honored Artist, Professor, First Vice-Rector of Kharkiv National University of Arts named after I.P. Kotlyarevsky Garry Abajyan .

History

The Slobodzhansky Youth Academic Symphony Orchestra was created in 1992 by order of the chairman of the Kharkiv Regional State Administration, Alexander Maselsky [2] . The first concert of the orchestra took place on September 30, 1992 as part of the opening of the second international festival " Kharkov Assemblies ". The first conductor was Rashit Nigamatullin . Since 1995 - Shaliko Paltajyan . Director and pianist until 1995 was Vladimir Solyanikov. The leader of the concerts during the first 20 years of the collective’s existence was Doctor of Art Criticism, professor of KNUI - Elena Roschenko.

In 1996 he was recognized as the "Best Youth Symphony Orchestra of Europe" at the European Music Festival of Youth Symphony Orchestras. [2] .

Based on outstanding achievements in ensuring the development of national culture, in 2008 the Slobozhansky Youth Symphony Orchestra received academic status [3] .

In November 2011, as part of the project “With music in the heart”, aimed at the social rehabilitation of convicts, a concert was organized by ISSA “Slobozhansky” in Kachanovskaya Women's Correctional Colony No. 54 [4]

In 2012, the orchestra began to work as part of its largest project, "Classic extravaganza."

As part of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship, the Slobozhansky youth academic symphony orchestra took part in concerts in the fan zone on the central square of Kharkov, which were broadcast by European television to European countries [5] .

From 2013 to 2015, the youth orchestra also performed under the brand name "Virtuosos of Slobozhanshchina" [6] .

In March 2013, the orchestra performed with Svyatoslav Vakarchuk [6] as well as the first joint performance with the TNMK group [7] , which marked the beginning of their creative collaboration, which resulted in the release of the joint album "Sympho Hip-Hop" in early 2015 [8 ] .

In May 2018, the orchestra performed on the stage of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine . Conducted by People's Artist of Ukraine Allin Vlasenko , soloist Valery Sokolov (violin) [9] . In November of the same year, at the concert "Code of Kosenko: lost scores of prominent Ukrainians", the orchestra performed the first concert performance of the work of Ukrainian composer Viktor Kosenko - "11 studies in the form of ancient dances" [10] . In April 2019, the famous violinist Daniil Austrikh made his debut with ISSO Slobozhansky as a conductor [11] . And on May 10, 2019, at the Mystical Red Violin concert, the American violinist Elizabeth Pitcairn , playing the violin Antonio Stradivari - “Red Mendelssohn”, 1720, performed with the orchestra. This concert was the first performance of an American violinist in Ukraine [12] .

There is no permanent conductor in the orchestra. The team seeks to attract the best conductor art masters representing different national schools of symphonic conducting [13] . Original Designs

ISSA Slobozhansky is constantly in the creative search for new forms of popularizing symphonic art. For this purpose, the orchestra has implemented several projects atypical for symphony groups, among them: the IceSymphony concert, which takes place annually in the Saltovsky Ice sports complex. The performances of professional skaters are accompanied by a symphony orchestra and are accompanied by light installations [45] / As well as concerts with the participation of the master of sand animation Daria Pushankina [46] [47] , the concert “Dunaevsky. Song about the Merry Wind ”, during which the performance of Dunaevsky’s works alternates with the stories of the famous guide Maxim Rosenfeld about the work of the composer [48] . Also, the orchestra is an ongoing participant in the project of the popular group “ Tank on the Congo Maidan ” called “Sympho Hip-Hop” [49] .

Repertoire policy

The repertoire policy of the orchestra is aimed at the widest possible coverage of symphonic masterpieces of world classics. In addition to the recognized classical masterpieces, concerts also feature works by contemporary Ukrainian composers Vitaliy Gubarenko , Miroslav Skorik , Yevgeny Stankovich , Levka Kolodub , Vitaliy Patsery , Vladimir Ptushkin and others.

Charity

Since 2012, the youth orchestra is a regular participant in the annual charity concert " Classical extravaganza " [50] . A unique international project popularizes classical music and acquaints children and teenagers with the treasures of world art - at every concert 60% of the seats in the hall are given to musically gifted children and children from socially disadvantaged groups of the population: orphans, children from low-income families, etc. Funds raised for the purchase of medical equipment and supplies for children's hospitals and children's departments in medical institutions. For this purpose, annually, on St. Nicholas Day , classical music concerts are held with the participation of world-famous musicians from around the world.

The first concert was held on December 15, 2012 at the Organ Hall of the Kharkov Philharmonic Society [51] .

In 2013, after the concert "Classical Extravaganza", as part of the project "Pure Blood", test systems for donor blood testing were purchased at the oncology department of the Kharkiv Regional Children's Clinical Hospital No. 1.

In December 2015, violinists Daniil Austrikh (Germany, Russia) and Eugene Muzykant (Ukraine), cellist Laszlo Fenio, viola player Alexander Dvornichenko (Ukraine), clarinet player Sergey Dvornichenko (USA), conductor Kirill Karabits (Ukraine) took part in concerts in Kharkov and Lviv ) The proceeds from the sale of tickets went to the purchase of high-tech consumable operating materials for the Institute of General and Emergency Surgery. V.T. Zaitseva (Kharkov) and the Regional Clinical Hospital (Lviv) [52] .

In 2016, the Slobodzhansky Youth Academic Symphony Orchestra and musicians from different countries took part in the charity concert “Classical Extravaganza-2016” on December 24, 2016 at the Kharkiv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after N. V. Lysenko singer Alexander Tsymbalyuk , as well as Daniil Austrih, Laszlo Fenio Sergey Dvornichenko and Alexander Dvornichenko, and conducted by the orchestra Vladimir Fanshil (Australia). As a result of a charity concert, an electroneuromyograph was purchased at the Kharkov Regional Clinical Hospital [53] .

In 2017, the conductor Theodor Kuchar (USA), one of the best cellists in the world Laszlo Fenio (Germany), violinist and teacher of the Higher School of Music in Cologne Daniil Austrih (Germany), the creator of the Classical Extravaganza project viola player Alexander Dvornichenko (Ukraine) took part in the concert , clarinet player Sergey Dvornichenko (USA). French horn player Arkady Shilkloper (Germany) brought an alpine horn to Kharkov. The collected funds went to purchase equipment for the children's operating room of the Kharkiv Regional Clinical Center of Urology and Nephrology named after IN AND. Shapoval [54] .

In December 2018, at a concert, the Youth Orchestra was conducted by Yuri Yakovenko, and the place of Arkady Shilkloper among the soloists was taken by the Armenian multi-instrumentalist musician Harutyun Chkolyan [55] . And with the funds raised, for visually impaired children from the V.G. Korolenko, a Braille printer was purchased [56] .
