From History
In the XVI - early XVII centuries. many villages on Cheryomukha belonged to the boyar family of Mstislavsky . Prince F.I. Mstislavsky , the last of his kind, in 1621 bequeathed the village, among others, to the Moscow Simon Monastery . As a result of the secularization of church and monastery lands carried out in 1764 by Catherine II, the village was transferred to the College of Economy for a short time, but soon became the property of Count Alexei Grigoryevich Orlov-Chesmensky , and then to his only heiress, Anna Alekseevna Orlova-Chesmenskaya , known for charity and the generous gifts of the church [3] .
Population
According to the statistical compilation “Rural settlements of the Yaroslavl region as of January 1, 2007”, 23 people live in the village of Elokhovo [1] . According to the topographic map for 1981, 0.06 thousand people lived in the village [4] .
Geography
The village is located in the north of the district, near the border with the Rybinsk district , on the left bank of the Cheryemuhi river. This is one of the last settlements of the Bolsheselsky district down the left bank of the river. At a short distance to the northwest of Elokhovo is the village of Ilyinskoye , and Golovinskoye is practically adjacent to that from the northeast, the last village of the Bolsheselsky district down the left bank of Cheryomukha. These three settlements are located on the outer side of the Cheryemuha bend, and on the opposite bank inside the bend is the village of Demidovo . All four settlements are located on the same field surrounded by forests, on which there is also the village of Basalaevo , standing off the river at a distance of 1 km west of Elokhovo. To the west of this field, behind a small swampy forest, begins the vast swamp Velikiy Mokh , in which intensive peat extraction was carried out under Soviet rule . To the east of Elokhovo, across the river, there is a forest area about 6 km wide, beyond which are the villages of the Rybinsk district, standing along the road from Rybinsk to the Alexandrov Pustyn [4] .
