“God of little things” is the author’s first novel. Work on it, completed in 1996, lasted 4 years.
The action of the novel takes place in the city of Ayamenem, located in the state of Kerala in southwestern India. The main characters of the book are the twin twins Esta and Rachel. The story constantly carries the reader from 1969, when the twins were seven years old, in 1993, when they were already 31, and vice versa. Most of the novel describes the events that occurred in 1969. The text of the novel contains a large number of words in Malayalam , a language spoken in this part of India .
The novel touches on topics that are significant for India, such as the caste system and the position of the untouchables, the role of women, the life of Christians in Kerala, and the prominent role of the Communist Party in Kerala.
