History

The Elabuga Institute of KFU was established in 2011 on the basis of the Elabuga State Pedagogical University [1] .

Pre-Soviet period

In 1898, a new center for teacher education in the Vyatka province arose in Yelabuga . This was made possible thanks to the Elabuzh merchant, the hereditary Honorary Citizen Glafira Fedorovna Stakhaeva, who decided to perpetuate the memory of her late husband by donating funds for the construction of an educational institution.

Concerned with the needs of the Orthodox clergy of the Kama region, I came to the idea of applying for the establishment of a theological seminary in the city of Elabuga - the central point for 5 counties of 3 lips: Vyatka, Ufa and Kazan ...

The plan of the merchant, in general, was approved by the Diocesan Assembly , however, the Holy Synod rejected her request for a theological seminary and issued permission to establish the Diocesan Women's College.

The building project was developed by the Vyatka provincial engineer, first-degree architect I.A. Charushin . The builder was the architect-artist A. I. Gorokhov. The construction of the building lasted four years continuously, except for the first five winter months, and was completed by August 15, 1903 [3] . The building of the Elabuga Institute is an architectural monument, is included in the register of the Elabuga State Museum-Reserve [2] .

Pupils of the diocesan school studied the basic sciences, the law of God, etiquette, foreign languages and music. Upon graduation, the girls received the title of home teacher. Additional classes opened at the school at the verbal-historical and physical-mathematical departments allowed graduates to acquire the specialty of a teacher in a parish school or diocesan school. Before the October Revolution, the diocesan school trained several hundred female teachers [4] .

Soviet period

In 1918, the diocesan school was closed; in the same year, a Tatar teacher's seminary was opened here. Later, according to the decree of the People’s Commissariat, the Yelabuga Tatar Teachers' Seminary was transformed into three-year teacher training courses for different national and ethnic groups. Since that time, Russian pedagogical courses have functioned here, as well as Mari, Votyak and Tatar.

In August 1923, at a meeting of the Tatar pedagogical council, a decision was made to rename them to the Yelabuga District Tatar Pedagogical College. The structure of the pedagogical school was constantly expanding, in 1930 it became Russian-Tatar. At the same time, primary school teachers were trained. In the academic year 1931-1932, the correspondence department was opened. In 1935, a library department was established at the pedagogical school, which in 1937 stood out as a separate technical school.

In the academic year 1936-1937, the Elabuga District Tatar Pedagogical College was transformed into a pedagogical school. In 1939, by decree of the Government of the USSR, a teacher institute was created on the basis of a pedagogical school, the main task of which was to prepare qualified teachers for incomplete secondary schools. Students were recruited from the nearest 12 districts of the Udmurt and Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republics to four faculties: historical, physical and mathematical, philological, natural-geographical.

During the Great Patriotic War , Voronezh University , laboratories of the Leningrad University , as well as a branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences were evacuated to Yelabuga. All of them are located in the building of the Elabuga Teachers Institute.

In total, during the war years, 22 professors and 25 associate professors worked at the institute. During this period, such famous scientists as academician V. I. Smirnov , academician V. A. Fok , future academician V. A. Hambartsumyan , professor V. V. Mavrodin , professor S. I. Kovalev and others worked here. Since 1941, the first Tatar woman, Ph.D. in Philology M.G. Fayzullina, began working in Yelabuga.

In the post-war years, due to the wide development of secondary education and increased requirements for the level of qualifications of teachers, teacher institutes lost their importance. By a resolution of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR of August 19, 1952, the Elabuga State Pedagogical Institute was formed on the basis of the Elabuga Teachers' Institute. On April 1, 1953, students were admitted to two faculties: physical and mathematical and philological. In the first year 150 students were accepted. The following year, the correspondence department opened, to which 200 students were admitted. In the future, the institute grew, forming new faculties: pedagogy and methods of primary education (1959), foreign languages (1965), the only technical school in the Volga region at that time (1975), and a number of others.

Since December 1973, an 8-month preparatory department has been opened at the institute, the main task of which was to prepare working and rural youth to enter universities with a separation from production. Due to this, in 1973 the YPPI was assigned to the universities of the second according to the Ministry of Public Education of the RSFSR, and in 1986 to the first category.

In 1982, for the achievements in the training of teaching staff of the Unified State Pedagogical University, the rolling Red Banner of the USSR Ministry of Education and the Central Committee of the Union of Education Workers, Higher Schools and Scientific Institutions was awarded [4] .
