The ship was ordered by the Greek government of the shipyard Stabilimento Tecnico Triestino, Austria-Hungary [2] and cost £ 210,000 [3] after the Cretan uprising of 1866 showed the absence of modern warships in the Greek fleet. Continuing the terminology of the Byzantine era, in the Greek fleet the ship was called an armored dromon (Greek Θωρακοδρόμων - thoracodromon).
The hull was wooden. Due to the poor quality of wood, the problem with the watercourse of the hull was present throughout the life of the ship.
In 1894, the ship became the training ship of the naval cadets.
"Vasilissa Olga" took part in the short and "strange" Greek-Turkish war of 1897 as part of the Western, Ionian, flotilla.
In 1913, Vasilissa Olga was converted into a hospital ship, and was based in Suda Bay , Crete . In 1915, the ship was withdrawn from the combat fleet and converted into a residential blockchain on the basis of the Greek fleet in the Bay of the Court.
The ship was decommissioned in 1925 and disassembled into wood.
