Biography
Antonio Dolchi was born on August 29, 1798 in the city of Bergamo.
Fellow practitioner of Gaetano Donizetti at the Simon Mayr Charity School of Music; together with Donizetti himself and three other students, he appeared under his name in the opera-pasture of Myra “The Little Composer” ( Italian: II piccolo compositore di musica ; 1811 ), staged by the students [1] .
Later for many years he corresponded with Donizetti, who shared with Dolce his impressions of his musical career; it is also known that Dolci regularly read aloud to his teacher Mayr, who was blinded in old age [2] .
Later he was the pianist of the opera house in Bergamo, in 1830 - 1866 . organist of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore. At the same time in 1831 - 1866 . taught at the Bergamo Music Institute (among his students were, in particular, Angelo Mascheroni and Luigi Logeder ).
Antonio Dolchi died on November 17, 1869 in his hometown.
