Initial biography
Mikhail Nikolaevich Ivanov was born on November 6, 1898 in the village of Tsybakovo, now Chukhloma District, Kostroma Region.
Military Service
World War I and Civil War
In February 1917 he was drafted into the ranks of the Russian Imperial Army , in which he served until March 1918 . From October 1918 he served in the ranks of the Red Army .
He served as a Red Army soldier as part of the reserve battalion of the 4th rifle division in the city of Galich . From December of the same year, he was a cadet of the Oranienbaum machine-gun courses, after which, from April 1919, he fought on the North-Western Front against troops commanded by General N. N. Yudenich as assistant platoon commander in the squad of cadets PetrogrO . In May, he was wounded in battle and was treated at a hospital. From September 1919 he was a student of the Higher Rifle School in Moscow . From July 1920 he served in the 181st rifle regiment ( 21st rifle division , Barnaul ) at the posts of company commander, head of the regimental school and head of the machine-gun team.
Interwar Time
In September 1921, he was appointed commandant of Barnaul, in October 1922 - for instructions from the Altai provincial military enlistment office, in April 1923 - as a military commissar of the Altai provincial military prodmag, in June 1923 - as a teacher in the CHON , in October - for the position of commander of the 2nd individual battalion of the CHON in the city of Novonikolayev, and in October 1924 - to the position of commander of the battalion of the 104th infantry regiment ( 35th Infantry Division , Irkutsk ).
In August 1925 he was sent to study at the Military Academy named after MV Frunze , after which in July 1928 he was appointed to the post of chief of staff of the 11th rifle regiment ( 4th rifle division ). From February 1930 he served as Assistant Head of the Department, and then as Chief of the Sector of the 3rd Directorate of the Red Army Headquarters.
Since December 1933, he was an adjunct of the Military Transport Academy . From 1935 he was a student of military history courses at the Military Academy named after MV Frunze, which he graduated in 1936 , from January 1937 - a student of the Academy of the General Staff of the Red Army , and from October an associate of this academy.
In December 1937, Ivanov was appointed head of the department of the secretariat of the Defense Committee of the USSR SNK , in March 1940 - head of the 1st department of the General Staff Mobilization Directorate, and in August - a senior lecturer at the Academy of the General Staff of the Red Army.
Great Patriotic War
In July 1941, he was appointed to the post of chief of the 1st division of the operational department of the 14th army headquarters of the Karelian front , in August - to the post of deputy chief of staff of the same army, and in November - to the post of chief of the headquarters of the Medvezhiegorsk operational group . He took part in the defense of the Arctic on the Medvezhiegorsk direction.
From March 1942, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff of the Karelian Front. In May, he was removed from his post, after which he was appointed to the post of head of the operations department of the 5th Reserve Army, transformed into the 63rd in June, and into the 1st Guards in November.
In December 1942, Colonel Mikhail Nikolaevich Ivanov was appointed to the post of chief of staff of the 14th rifle corps , transformed in April 1943 into the 27th Guards . The corps took part in the Middle Aidon and Voroshilovgrad operations , as well as in the defense on the Seversky Donets River .
From August 1943, he was at the disposal of the Military Council of the South-Western Front , and then the GUK. In October of the same year, he was appointed chief of staff of the 97th Rifle Corps ( 6th Guards Army , 2nd Baltic Front ), which participated in defensive battles north-west of Nevel , and then withdrawn to the reserve of the Supreme Command Headquarters . From 9 to 22 April 1944, served as corps commander. In May 1944, he was again appointed to the post of chief of staff of the same corps.
In March 1945, he was appointed to the post of chief of the operational department of the headquarters of BelVO .
Post War Career
In July 1945, he was appointed senior research officer, in May 1946, head of the 3rd department of the Military History Department of the General Staff of the Red Army, and in January 1947, head of the 4th department of this department.
Major General Mikhail Nikolaevich Ivanov died on February 2, 1948 in Moscow .
