History
The banknote belongs to a series of multicolor banknotes, the main theme of which is historical figures and the regions of France, which include Twenty Francs Bayard and Fifty Francs Jacques Coeur . The banknote was issued by the Bank of France from August 1940 to May 1942. She was withdrawn from circulation and ceased to be legal tender since June 4, 1945.
Description
The authors of the banknote were the artist Lucien Jonas and the engraver Ernest Pierre Deloch. Watermarks were developed by Ernest Florian. The dominant colors of the banknote are brown and gray.
On the left in the foreground, a portrait of a woman in a laurel wreath, which symbolizes France, on the right is a child. A woman and a child are holding a medallion framed by clusters of grapes (which is a watermark). The background of the banknote is the island of Cité , aerial view.
The reverse depicts Maximilien de Bethune Sully with a scroll in his hand. On the scroll there is an inscription, in Old French, " plowing and harvesting are the two nurse (mamelles) of France." Banknote background - scenes from peasant life. In the background, the castle of Sully-sur-Loire , which Maximilien de Bethune Sully, Minister Henry IV bought in 1602.
