“The Sabbath of Witches” ( Spanish: El Aquelarre, o El gran Cabrón ) is a painting by the Spanish artist Francisco Goya , written between 1819 and 1823 on the wall of his “House of the Deaf” . One of 14 such images, which was later transferred to the canvas and is now stored in the Prado Museum .

History
The composition was originally, according to an inventory in 1828-1830 of a friend of Goya Antonio Brugada , was among the panels located on the lower floor of the “House of the Deaf” , huge in length, it occupied the entire south side of the wall of the house to the left of the front door. Among other " Dark Pictures " was translated into canvas by artist Salvador Martinez Kubels at the request of the French banker Frederic Émile d'Erlanger for display at the 1878 World's Fair . The work did not attract buyers and therefore in 1881 was donated to the Prado Museum .
In 1798, Goya had already painted a picture for a similar plot for the Duke of Osun .
