The name Kleinia was first used in relation to this plant genus in 1737 by Karl Linnaeus in the book Genera Plantarum . Linnae called this genus of plants after his contemporary Jacob Theodore Klein (1682-1759) [3] . In the Species Plantarum of 1753, the starting point of the modern botanical nomenclature, he did not use this name, after this date this name was again taken by Philip Miller in 1754 [2] .
Stems prostrate or erect, may be cylindrical or angular in cross section.
The leaves are whole, in some species bluish-blue or whitish, usually fleshy, may have a flat or cylindrical shape.
The flowers are usually noticeable due to the bright color, solitary or collected flaps, terminal or axillary.
Some species are grown as indoor succulent plants. In regions with suitable climatic conditions, a number of species are used for arranging carpet stands and borders when designing flower beds.
The genus includes more than fifty species [4] , many of which were previously included in the extensive genus Krestovnik ( Senecio ).
