Opovo ( Serb. Opovo ) is a city in Serbia, the center of the community of the same name . Located in the South Banat region of Vojvodina. According to the 2002 census, 4,693 people lived in the city. Around Opova there are several archaeological sites belonging to the Starchevo-Krisha Neolithic culture .

The average age of city residents is 39.5 years (38.3 for men and 40.6 for women). Ethically, Opovo is inhabited by Serbs , which make up 79.77% of the population. Also, Croats live in the city - 5.77%, Yugoslavs - 3.30%, etc.
Opovo was first mentioned for the first time in 1672 , at a time when these lands belonged to the Ottoman Empire . After 1718, the city became part of the Panchevach region of the Austrian Empire . As part of this district, the city remained until 1768 , when it was included in the 12th German-Banat Regiment of the Military Border . After the abolition of the military organization in 1881, Opovo was demilitarized. After the First World War, it, like a significant part of Banat , became part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes .
