The presidential election in Italy in 1964 was held in connection with the resignation for health reasons on December 6, 1964 of President Antonio Segni , elected in May 1962 . In accordance with Article 83 of the Constitution of Italy , the election of the President of Italy is carried out by Parliament at a joint meeting of its members. For election, a candidate must receive a two-thirds majority of the members of the assembly. After the third vote, an absolute majority is enough.
Elections were held from December 16 to December 28, 1964, and it took 21 rounds to elect the president. In the 21st round, Giuseppe Saragat won [1] .
