Biography
Polish nobleman. Stanislav was the son of Theodor Helkhovsky coat of arms Lubich (? - 1891) and Julia (nee Obremba (Obrębska). In addition to him, there were 3 more sisters and a brother in the family: Maria Sniehovskaya (Śniechowska), Theodora Rouppertowa (1856-1918), Kazim (1858-1917) and Jadwiga Milewska (1868-1943) owned the estates of Khoinovo and Milosevets Kmeitsy .
Education
He attended the gymnasium of A. L. Piglovsky (Pigłowski) in Mlawa , then in Warsaw, where in 1883 [1] he graduated from the 4th Warsaw gymnasium with a gold medal. In 1887 he graduated from the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Warsaw with the title of Candidate of Science.
Social and Political Activities
During his studies, he joined the Union of Polish Youth "Z".
- In 1897-1898, he was a comrade (deputy) chairman.
- Since 1899, chairman of the agricultural section at the Museum of Industry and Agriculture in Warsaw.
- In 1901-1905 - the founder and chairman of the Plotsk Agricultural Society.
- Comrade (Deputy) Chairman of the Commerce and Industry Society.
- In 1905-1906 he was an active leader of the National League and the National Democratic Party , a member of the regional committee of the League in the Kingdom of Poland.
- In 1905, he was appointed by the Russian authorities a member of the commission for the introduction of Zemsky self-government in the Kingdom of Poland.
- In November 1905, he became a member of the delegation to the Prime Minister S. Yu. Witte , who proposed to carry out reforms in the Kingdom of Poland.
- In January 1906, with the permission of the Russian authorities, he gave a lecture course at the Płock Prison for the arrested soldiers and commune clerks on the use of the Polish language in communes. He advocated the partial use of the Polish language in business, for which he was arrested.
On June 12, 1906 he was elected to the State Duma of the 1st convocation from the general electors of the Plotsk Provincial Electoral Assembly. Member of the Presidium Polish Colo. The State Duma did not show much activity.
He refused to run for the State Duma of the second convocation , as he did not see any opportunities to achieve the goals of Polish national development in the framework of the Russian parliament.
In July 1906, he was an active figure in the Polish school "Matica" ("Fatherland"), a member of its first main department.
Scientific work
Helkhovsky, starting at age 14, collaborated with the editors of the Geographical Dictionary of the Kingdom of Poland. Later he went to the editorial board of this dictionary [2] . In subsequent years, he studied the ethnography of Plotsk Mazovia , especially its northern part and Kupria . He has published a number of ethnographic materials in the magazine "Wisla" and other publications. The author of several articles in the Agricultural Encyclopedia. The most important ethnographic works of Helkhovsky. Stories and stories of residents of the vicinity of Pshasnysh ( Powieści i opowiadania ludowe z okolic Przasnysza ) are collected in separate editions of the Wisla journal of volumes V and VI for 1889 and 1890. They contain 86 stories recorded in dialect while preserving the individual characteristics of the storytellers. These publications are still highly regarded by modern scholars of Polish folklore.
Helkhovsky was the author of several brochures and articles on the promotion of agricultural knowledge (for example: Our Exemplary Peasant Farm , 1899; Agriculture in Local Government , 1906), published in Gazecie Rolniczej (Bulletin of Agriculture), Gazecie Cukrowniczej (Sugar newspaper), Encyklopedii Rolniczej (Encyclopedia of Agriculture). He was also a member of the Bulletin of Agriculture and the Yearbook of Agricultural Sciences (Roczników Nauk Rolniczych).
He is widely recognized as a mycologist (specialist in mushrooms). Works in this field are published in the journals Wiadomościach Uniwersyteckich (University News), Pamiętniku Fizyograficznym (Physiographic Diary) and Wszechświecie (Universe). He described several new species of mushrooms and was the author of the first atlas of mushrooms in Poland, and also compiled a bibliography of works on floristry and mycology. Several manuscripts of the works of Helkhovsky died during the Warsaw Uprising.
Demise
Stanislav Khelkhovsky died on the way to Plock at a meeting of the agricultural society. He was buried in a family tomb in the village of Chernitsa Borove . In 2007, Poland celebrated the centenary of the day of his death.
Family
In 1891 he married Jadwor Jaworowska (Jaworowska). They had four children: Zbigniew (1894-1917), who tragically died in Russia, Khalina Yadviga Boyanovskaya (Bojanowską) (1895-1937), Kazimir (1899-1954), who inherited Khoinovo and Danuta Zhelekhovskaya (—elechowska) (1902— 1983), which was inherited by Milosevec Kmeitsy.
