Geographical position

The city is located in the southwestern part of the department, about 15 km from the city of Chinandega . The absolute height is 65 meters above sea ​​level [1] . The area of ​​the municipality is 225 km², but the city of Chichigalpa with its suburbs occupies only 3.5 km².

The climate of the city is characterized as tropical. The dry season lasts from November to April, the rainy season - from May to October. The hottest month is April.

History

In 1890, a distillery began to operate here (since 1937, it mastered the production of rum " Flor de Caña ") [2] .

Later, the Pan American Highway was laid through the city, connecting Chichigalpa with the country's capital, the city of Managua.

In 2013, the population of the city was 38,002 people [3] .
