Biography

William Herbert was born January 12, 1778 in the family of (the future 1st Earl of Carnarvon ). He studied at Eton College , and then enrolled at Oxford Christ Church . He soon moved to Exiter College , where in 1798 he received a bachelor's degree. Herbert continued his studies at Merton College , in 1802 he became a master, in 1808 - a doctor of civil law.

In 1806, William Herbert was elected to the Parliament from Hampshire , in 1811 from Crickleade . In 1812, he decided to leave parliament. In 1840, he was appointed Dean of Manchester .

William Herbert passed away May 28, 1847 at his home in London .

Herbert has authored numerous articles on bulb plants in the Botanical Register and Botanical Magazine .

In addition to politics and botany, Herbert also translated various poems. His collections of Icelandic, Portuguese, Danish, German and other poems were published.
