Biography

Stepan Dotsenko was born on February 18, 1900 in the village of Kvashino (now the Vorobyov district of the Voronezh region ) in a peasant family. After graduating from elementary school he worked on his father's farm, then on the collective farm . Later he moved to the Rostov region , where he worked in an artel, then at the Zhirnovsky lime plant. In July 1941, Dotsenko was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since August of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. He participated in the battles on the South-West , 3rd Ukrainian , 1st Belorussian fronts. Participated in battles in the Rostov region , the battle for the Caucasus . By November 1943, the Red Army soldier Stepan Dotsenko was the gunner of the 185th Guards Rifle Regiment of the 60th Guards Rifle Division of the 6th Army of the 3rd Ukrainian Front. He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1] .

November 26, 1943 Dotsenko with his calculation crossed the Dnieper in the area of ​​the village of Razumovka, Zaporizhia region, Zaporizhia region of the Ukrainian SSR and took an active part in the battles for the capture, retention and expansion of the bridgehead . He was wounded in battle, but continued to fight, destroying enemy infantry near a platoon [1] .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 22, 1944, for the "skillful performance of combat missions, courage and courage shown in battles for the Dnieper" of the guard, Red Army soldier Stepan Dotsenko was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 2663 [1] .

Later he participated in the liberation of Right-Bank Ukraine, the Bereznegovatno-Snigirev operation , the forcing of Ingulz , the Southern Bug , the Dniester , the liberation of Poland , including in the battles at the Magnushevsky bridgehead and the Vistula-Oder operation , in Germany . Dotsenko met the end of the war in Berlin . In August 1945, he was demobilized. He lived and worked in various cities of the USSR, his last place of residence was the village of Sarat in the Odessa region of the Ukrainian SSR, where he worked as chairman of the Catering. He died on April 12, 1978 [1] .

He was also awarded the Order of the Red Star and a number of medals [1] .

In honor of Dotsenko, a street was named in his native village [1] .
