Story
Screen adaptation of the novel of the same name Honore de Balzac . 1799 , the time of the Great French Revolution . In the French province of Brittany, there is a fierce armed counter-revolutionary uprising of the Shuans , aristocrats and clergy - by the Chuanery . By order of Joseph Foucher, Marie-Natalie de Verney is traveling from Paris - a former aristocrat, and now a fallen woman, a beautiful spy in the republican service. Arriving in Brittany, she should rely on the help of Koranten - an experienced, ambitious and unprincipled policeman. Marie has the task of seducing and capturing the leader of the Shuans - the Marquis de Montoran, the envoy of the king, who had recently arrived in Brittany from England . Waiting in the inn for a large sum of money to come from the UK, the Marquis de Montoran meets Marie de Verneuil and offers to accompany her to Fougere . As he suggests, his hospitality provoked the Shuans to massacre. Madame du Ga, a royal aristocrat, widow of the executed on the guillotine , one of the most active and ferocious leaders of the Shuana movement, falls in love with the Marquise de Montorana. The Marquis de Montoran and Marie de Verneuil fell in love and are considered traitors to both warring parties - the Shuans and Republicans. In the hope of fleeing to England, the Marquis and Marie are trying to leave Brittany, which is covered by bloody battles, but they die.
