Sports career

Season 2010/11

In the 2010/11 season, 15-year-old Michaela began performing at the stages of the North American Cup, confidently winning in starts involving older rivals. On December 14-16, 2010, Shiffrin won twice in the Canadian Panorama in 4 starts (super combination and super giant), once was the second (giant slalom) and once the third (slalom). On January 5 and 6, 2011, she won two slaloms in the American Sunday River.

On February 3, 2011, in the Swiss Kran-Montana, the 15-year-old Shiffrin won the bronze medal of the junior world championship in slalom (the American lost to Austrian Jessica Depauli and Swedish Anna Svenn-Larsson , who are 4 years older).

A month later, 2 days before her 16th birthday, the American made her debut in the World Cup in Czech Spindleruv Mlyn , failing to qualify for the second attempt at giant slalom, taking 43rd place in the first [1] . The next day, Michaela was not able to get into the second slalom attempt there, taking 32nd place in the first (Shiffrin did not have enough 0.05 seconds to take 30th place and qualify) [2] .

On April 3, 2011, Michaela won the US Championship in slalom, beating 0.52 seconds against Sarah Schleper , who became second, and more than 1.5 seconds from the third medalist. Shiffrin became the youngest ever alpine skiing champion in the United States [3] .

Season 2011/12

2012/13 Season

On February 14, Michaela made her debut at the World Championships in Schladming , finishing sixth in the giant slalom. On February 16, a young American became a world champion, winning in slalom, ahead of Michaela Kirchhasser and Frida Hansdotter (at the time the World Cup started, Shiffrin was in the lead in the World Cup slalom classification). Over the past 40 years, only Hanni Wenzel in 1974 in St. Moritz won the slalom at the world championship at a younger age [4] .

March 16, 2013 won the slalom at the final stage of the World Cup in Lenzerheide, which allowed the American to win a small Crystal Globe in the standings of slalom following the World Cup. In the overall standings of the World Cup, Shiffrin became fifth.

Season 2013/14

However, the main success for the American in the 2013/14 season was a performance at the Sochi Winter Olympics . On February 18, 2014, Shiffrin became the fifth in the giant slalom on the Rosa Khutor track, from the first place in two attempts she was separated 0.50 seconds, and from the third place, which Victoria Rebensburg took, 0.23 seconds.

February 21 at the Olympic Games held competitions in slalom . 18-year-old Michaela became the best in the first attempt, 0.49 seconds ahead of the 2010 Olympic champion in this discipline, Maria Höfl-Rish . In the second attempt, Shiffrin showed the sixth time, but the reserve after the first attempt was enough for her to win gold. The second Marlis Schild, in the end, fell behind by 0.53 seconds, and Catherine Zettel - by 0.83 seconds (all the others lost to the champion more than a second). Shiffrin became the youngest ever Olympic champion in slalom.

Season 2014/15

Michaela began the season with her first career victory in giant slalom at the World Cup. The American shared the first place in Sölden with the current World Cup winner Anna Fenninger .

Season 2015/16

Season 2016/17

02/18/2017 For the third time in a row, she won the World Slalom Ski Championships. Thus, she repeated the record held in women's skiing for 78 years - before that three times in a row the German skier Kristel Kranz became the world champion in slalom - this was in 1937, 1938 and 1939, long before the appearance of the Alpine Skiing World Cup. Schiffrin also equaled the number of victories with Ingemar Stenmark - the great Swede also three times became the world champion in slalom.

Season 2017/18

12/02/2017 Michaela Schiffrin - won her first career victory in downhill skiing in Lake Louis (Canada).

02/15/2018 Won the title of Olympic champion in 2018 in giant slalom in Pyeongchang.

03/10/2018 Early won its fifth consecutive Small Crystal Globe in this discipline and set a new absolute World Cup record, having won the 42nd victory at its stages under the age of 23 years. Schiffrin shared the previous achievement with the famous Austrian skier Annemarie Moser-Prell (41 victories). On March 17, 2018, Michaela Shiffrin won the 43rd victory in the cup stages at the age of 23 years and 4 days, setting a new absolute world record in the history of skiing.

Season 2018/19

12/03/2018 The women's race of the World Cup stage in the super giant ended on Monday night in Canadian Lake Louis, which became historical for the best skier in the world who had no victories in the World Cup in this discipline before, filled the gap and entered just 23 years old to the "super-elite club" of skiers who won all five classic ski disciplines - slalom, giant slalom, super giant, downhill and combination.

12/29/2018 The victory became the eighth in the season 2018/2019, the 51st at the stages of the World Cup and became the 36th in slalom at the stages of the World Cup for Michaela Shiffrin. Now she has become the most titled athlete in this discipline in the entire history of skiing. She also set another record, winning a fifteenth victory in a year. It is also the best result in alpine skiing history for victories in one calendar year. Mikaella finished the season with a new record, having gained 17 victories per season in various disciplines.
