Novotroitskoe (Volnovakha district)

It is located on the Sukhaya Volnovakha River (the right tributary of Kalmius ) ^{[2] [3]} .

The settlement was founded in 1773 ^[3] .

In 1938, Novotroitskoe became an urban-type settlement ^[3] .

During the Great Patriotic War, the village was occupied by the advancing German troops .

As of the beginning of 1974, an asphalt concrete plant, a soft drinks factory were operating here, and they also mined limestone and dolomites ^[2] .

In 1981, the population was 8.9 thousand people, there was a mining department (for the extraction of limestone and dolomite), a department of the Volnovakha regional agricultural machinery, 3 secondary schools, a hospital, 3 culture houses and 3 libraries ^[3] .

In 1989, the population was9307 people ^[4] , in 1992 - 9.3 thousand people, in 1999 - 8.5 thousand people, in 2001 - 7 700, in 2011 - 7093 people.

As of January 1, 2013, the population was 6978 people ^[5] .

On the night of May 22-23, 2014, militants attacked a checkpoint near the village of Novotroitsky. To capture the checkpoint of the Ukrainian army, they used a collection vehicle and an ambulance. Terrorists drove them point blank to the checkpoint and opened fire to kill. At the same time, another group of militants launched an assault from another direction. The attack, which lasted 5 hours, was repelled. The soldier Yuri Bilyk with well-aimed fire destroyed two enemy sniper points. Having received a shrapnel wound to his leg, he refused to the last to leave the checkpoint, but the persistent requests of his comrades compelled him to do so. ^[6]

On September 1, 2014, militants of the DPR terrorist organization captured Novotroitskoye. ^[7]

In 2015, a checkpoint with uncontrolled territories began operating near the village. ^[eight]

On January 3, 2016, fighters of the 72nd brigade of the Armed Forces occupied a strategic height near Novotroitsky. The militants had to abandon their training ground at the foot of a busy heap, terrorists are forced to dig in the ground and can’t shell Ukrainian positions at close range. ^[9]

In 2019, for the first time since 2010, the election of the President of Ukraine was held in the village. ^[ten]
