History

The ensemble “Viorika” ( Mold. - the name of the forest flower, violin , as well as the female name ) was founded in 1945 in Tiraspol (Moldavian SSR) as a group of amateur performances. For several decades, the ensemble was led by Honored Artist of the Moldavian SSR Boris Nikolayevich Reshetnikov [1] . The ensemble repeatedly became the winner of various republican and all-union festivals and competitions among amateur art groups, performed with concerts in the republics of the USSR and toured abroad (the geography of performances covers Cuba, the Philippines, Turkey, Greece, Vietnam, Italy, Germany and other countries [1] ) .

Ukrainian dance

In 1992, the dance ensemble "Viorika" received the status of a professional team. After Boris Reshetnikov passed away, his student Alexei Chirtoaca became the art director and choreographer. In 1993, “Viorica” was given the name of the state ensemble of folk music and dance of the Transnistrian Moldavian Republic [1] . Since 2000, “Viorika” has been part of the philharmonic structure of the State Cultural Center “Palace of the Republic” [2] .

Since 2002, the artistic director and conductor of the ensemble has been the People's Artist of the Transdniestrian Moldavian Republic, Alexander Galatsan, and Igor Chobanu, Honored Artist of the Transnistrian Moldavian Republic, is the chief choreographer [1] .

In the summer of 2016, the ensemble took part in the "Southern Festival", which took place in France, Switzerland and Spain [3] [4] .

Repertoire

The ensemble’s repertoire includes folklore dances of different nations: Moldavian dances “Chora Satului”, “Resesasca”, “Zorile Nistrenii”, “Dan de Codru”, Hutsul dance “Peretupy”, Bulgarian, Hungarian and Gypsy dance suites, choreographic performances in Russian and Ukrainian themes [5] , as well as orchestral arrangements of folk melodies and folk songs performed by vocalists. Costumes for artists are created according to sketches that convey the features of national clothing [1] .

Ensemble Artists

For 10 years, the ensemble's lead singer was Valentina Ursulyak, People's Artist of the Transnistrian Moldavian Republic.

The orchestra consists of traditional Moldavian folk instruments: violin, accordion, cymbals , double bass, trumpet, nai , fluer , kaval , ocarina . Among the musicians there are soloists who have a specific style of play inherent in Moldavian lautars [6] .
