Novyi Svit ( Ukrainian: Noviy Svіt ) is an urban-type settlement in the Starobeshevsky district of the Donetsk region of Ukraine . De facto - since 2014, the settlement has been controlled by the self - proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic [2] .

Geography
In the Donetsk region there is a settlement of the same name - the village of New World to the north-east of Makeevka (Makeevsky city council).
The village is located on a river called Kalmius , on the left (eastern) bank of the Starobeshevsky reservoir formed by it.

History
The village of Novyi Svet was founded in 1954 during the construction of the Starobeshevskaya TPP . Since 1956 - an urban-type settlement.
