Born in Cordoba in a noble family, which as a result of the civil war in the Cordoba caliphate lost its position. He began to write historical works in difficult times for himself, but later managed to become an official chronicler of the caliphate thanks to the help of the vizier Abu Mohammed ar-Rashid. During the reign of al-Mansur, he wrote his main works on history, of which only a part has been preserved. His books are one of the most important sources for studying Andalusian history, especially the history of Cordoba and the typhus rulers.

Like Ibn Hazm , he was a supporter of the Umayyad dynasty and expressed regret over its fall and the subsequent collapse of the Andalusian state and the beginning of typhus. With the death of al-Mansour, he lost his position, but tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to find the location of the subsequent Cordoban rulers.

He died in Cordoba in 1076, forgotten by everyone, and was buried in the cemetery of El Raval.
