History
In documents on the collection of church tithes for 1333, Chumbul is mentioned. In 1552, these places were conquered by the Ottoman Empire and became part of the Temeshvar Eylet . In 1718, in accordance with the conditions of the Pozharevatsky world, these lands became part of the Habsburg monarchy . During the years of Turkish rule and hostilities, the local population decreased significantly, and therefore the Habsburgs began to attract immigrants from central Europe, who became known as banat swabs . The German colonists created the Hatzfeld community here. When in 1867 the Austrian Empire was transformed into Austria-Hungary , then, in the framework of the policy of Magyarization, the community was called Zombolya.
At the end of World War I, the city was occupied by Serbian forces. By the decision of the Paris Peace Conference, he became part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes under the name Jombol, but in 1924, as a result of the rectification of the border with Romania, it was transferred to Romania.
Gimboly received city status in 1950. One of the symbols of the city is a statue of St. Florian, the patron saint of firefighters, installed in the center of one of the intersections of the city.
