David Dewhurst , full name David Henry Dewhurst ( born David Henry Dewhurst ; born August 18, 1945 , Houston , Texas ) is an American politician, 41st vice-governor of Texas [1] .

Biography
David Dewhurst was born on August 18, 1945 in Houston ( Texas ). When he was about three years old, his father died in a car accident and was raised by his mother [2] . In the same place, in Houston, he graduated from Lamar High School [3] .
After that, he studied at the University of Arizona , and also played for the university basketball team. He graduated from the University of Arizona in 1967 and received a Bachelor of Arts ( BA ) [2] .
From 1967 to 1970, Dewhurst served in the US Air Force and took part in the Vietnam War , and after that from 1971 to 1974 he worked in the CIA , in particular in Bolivia [2] [4] .
After that, he studied at the law school , and in 1978 returned to Houston and organized an oilfield services company, which went bankrupt during the fall in oil prices in the early 1980s. In 1981, he founded the Falcon Seaboard energy investment company - this business was more successful and brought him financial security [2] .
David Dewhurst won the Texas Vice Governor election in November 2002, and took office in January 2003. Subsequently, he twice retained his post, winning the election of vice-governor of the state in 2006 and 2010 [5] .
On July 18, 2011, already knowing that Kay Bailey Hutchison would not be re-elected to the next US Senator from Texas , David Dewhurst announced his intention to participate in the election campaign. The primary election of the Republican candidate for the US Senator from Texas took place on May 29, 2012. David Dewhurst's main rival was Ted Cruz . Dewhurst scored 45% of the vote, while Cruise had 34%. However, since Dewhurst gained less than 50%, a second round of voting was appointed on July 31, 2012, in which only these two candidates remained. In the second round, Cruz was ahead of Dewhurst by 14% (57% versus 43%), despite the support given to the latter by Texas Governor Rick Perry and other famous politicians [6] [7] .
In January 2013, David Dewhurst confirmed that he was going to run in the next Texas vice governor election to be held in 2014. [8]
