Biography

He graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering LISI (1984). Simultaneously with his studies at the institute, he played in the theater of Lev Schwartz (until 1985) [2] . Supervised the construction of defense facilities (1983-1990). According to Gruntovsky, this work made it possible to gain vast life experience, which was later useful in the work of the playwright and the director [3] . Poems began to compose in early childhood. A passion for poetry was instilled in him by his father, from whom Andrew by ear learned many poems by A. S. Pushkin. The love of folklore and ethnography also originated from Gruntovsky in childhood under the influence of maternal grandparents, who came from the Yaroslavl region. Early Gruntovsky was most influenced by the poetic works of Pushkin, Yesenin, Mayakovsky. Later V. Vysotsky and N. Rubtsov joined this list of classics. As a prose writer, he was formed, focusing on A. Platonov, V. Shukshin, B. Shergin. The first poetry collections appear in the format of samizdat in the late 70s. The ideological turn in the direction of Orthodoxy occurred with A. Gruntovsky in the 80s. At the same time, he creates a poetic transcription of "The Word of Igor's Regiment" (1989), which was his first serious literary work. At the same time, the first literary works of Gruntovsky, imbued with the Orthodox view of the world, appear. In this series, it is worth highlighting the work of “Adam's Mystery” (1996). [4] Since the end of the eighties, Gruntovsky has been actively involved in folklore work, organizing festivals, including in other cities. In the first collection of Poems (1994), the motifs of the traditional Petersburg poetic school are felt, based on the work of poets of the golden and silver centuries interspersed with a rustic theme.

Theater

In the second collection “Lyrics. Drama ”(1997) is enhanced by the literary leitmotif of the tragedy. This is manifested in the free translation of V. Shakespeare "King Richard III", subsequently received life in the form of a solo performance. Theatrical experiences, along with the dissatisfaction with the existing dramatic forms, make the author think about creating a traditional, truly Russian theater. In 1994, under the leadership of Gruntovsky, a new group appeared - “Theater of Folk Drama”. The repertoire of the new theater is based on both the plays of the director himself and the new translation of Shakespeare's “King Lear” (1995). In addition, the performances of Eseninsky "Pugachev" (1996), Pushkin's "Boris Godunov" (1997), children's performances, etc. are performed. Having lost its premises in 1997, the theater actually ceases to operate. But the idea does not leave A. V. Gruntovsky. After 9 years, the vicar of the Alexander Nevsky Monastery, Archimandrite Nazary, invites the director to work in the “Svyatoduhovsky” center, the artistic director of which he becomes, and where the new theatrical period begins. Gruntovsky develops a school of narration about contemporary reality and modern people, based on the principles of archaic folklore theater. In the period 2006–2010. The plays about Pushkin, Shergin, Rubtsov, Vysotsky, Shukshin, Abramov are written and put, in many of which Gruntovsky also acts as an actor. Continuously and in close connection with this book is written about the Russian literature "Mainland Russia". The author himself defined it as an “attempt of Orthodox literary criticism”. [5] .

Creativity of the last years

Since the 2000s. in the work of Gruntovsky, the eschatological understanding of being, the historiosophical analysis of the processes taking place both in the personality of a single person and the fate of Russia, become the central theme. This can be clearly seen in books such as My Family Tree (2004, 2005) and Trumpet Trucks (2007). In 2009, the book “Carpentry” was published, and at the same time another work “Childhood in the Country of Tips” was published in the Aurora magazine. Such writers as V. Lyalin and N. Konyaev highly praised the poet's prose.

Children's books

Recognition was also received by the books of Gruntovsky for children: Donushkin Tales (1999) and Lily of the Valley (2007).

Russian fist fight

Another facet of the activity of A. V. Gruntovsky is the revival and propaganda of the national Russian military traditions. For many years Gruntovsky has been a practicing trainer and chairman of the St. Petersburg Society of Russian Fisticuffs. For the first time in 1986, the book “Russian fist fight” was published in “samizdat”, which is devoted to the tradition of Russian martial arts. The official publication was released in 1993, and then reprinted several times in Moscow and St. Petersburg. In addition to describing the traditional fighting technique, the book contains an ethnographic study and historical excursion.
