Octadas

Octads are classes in the distribution of the decimal number system used by the Greeks for Archimedes beyond its usual, not exceeding 10,000 , limits. These classes were compiled through a combination of consecutive bits in a group of eight in each. The first class extended, therefore, from 1 to 10,000 2 , or the number 100,000,000 , which represented a unit of the second class, whose limit number, or, which is the same thing, the unit of the 3rd class was 1 with 2 × 8 zeros, etc. d., and the unit of the nth class (octade) was represented by 1 with (n-1) × 8 zeros. Octads, in turn, were grouped into periods from which the first extended from the 1st octade to (10,000) the 2nd . It follows that the unit of the second period was a number expressed as 1 with 800 million zeros [1] .
