As of 2004, all nature conservation areas of Tajikistan occupy a total area of 3.1 million hectares. or 22% of the republic’s territory and include 4 - reserves [1] with a total area of 173418 ha, 13 - reserves on an area of 313260 ha, 1 - a national park with a total area of 2.6 million ha, 1 - a historical and natural park - 3000 ha and 1 - a natural park of 3805 ha. [2] National parks are managed by the Ministry of Nature Protection of the Republic of Tajikistan (MNO RT).
