Biography

Grigory Dolgov was born on August 23 ( September 5 ), 1903 in the village of Staraya Bryn (now Bryn, Sukhinichi District, Kaluga Region ) into a peasant family. After graduating from four grades of school, he worked on a collective farm. In 1941, Dolgov was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He graduated from the regimental school. From the first day of World War II - on its fronts. By June 1944, Guard Lieutenant Grigory Dolgov commanded a platoon of the 201st Guards Rifle Regiment of the 67th Guards Rifle Division of the 6th Guards Army of the 1st Baltic Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Vitebsk region of the Byelorussian SSR [1] .

On June 22, 1944, Dolgov’s platoon was one of the first to break through the enemy’s defenses in the vicinity of the village of Sirotino, Shumilinsky District, and crossed the Western Dvina River , seizing a bridgehead on the west bank in the vicinity of the village of Bui, Beshenkovichi District. June 24, 1944 in the battles on the bridgehead Dolgov died. He was buried in a mass grave in the village of Mamoyki, Beshenkovichi district [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of July 22, 1944, for the "exemplary performance of command missions on the front of the fight against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown" of the guard, the younger lieutenant Grigory Dolgov was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also posthumously awarded the Order of Lenin [1] .

Two schools in Sukhinichi district and a street in Sukhinichi are named in honor of Dolgov [1] .
