Japanese mint ( lat. Méntha japonica ) is a perennial herbaceous plant , a species of the genus Mint ( Mentha ) of the family Lamiaceae , endemic to the Japanese islands .

Japanese common name for the plant ( Japanese 姫 薄荷 hime-hakka )

It grows on the islands of Hokkaido and Honshu , is found in the swamps, is considered a rare species.

Plants with a height of 20-40 cm. Leaves 1-2 cm long, 3-8 mm wide. The flowers are white or pale purple with 4 stamens. Flowering lasts from August to October. Fruits are about 0.8 mm long.

The plant is used in cosmetics and can be added to foods.
