History

For the first time appears on the city map in 1836 as Lavalev Street - by the name of “Laval’s House”, which stood on the corner of the current Professor Popov Street. Since 1849 - Back Lane , since 1868 - Deaf Lane (one of many in St. Petersburg with the same name), because it rested against a dead end on the fence of the Vyazemsky estate. Since March 5, 1871 - Vyazemsky Lane (by the name of the owners of the estate ). From December 15, 1952 to January 4, 1954 it was called Belgorodskaya Street , but the name did not take root.

Modernity

Vyazemsky Lane (view from Pesochnaya Embankment towards Professor Popov Street )

Currently, the lane has a length of about 500 m. Despite the fact that it is called a lane, its width is 30 meters - more than the main highways of the region: Kamennoostrovsky and Bolshoi Avenues (both of them have a width of about 20 m).

The main part of the development of the alley is residential, the 32nd district polyclinic (house 3), as well as the hostel of St. Petersburg State University ITMO (house 5-7) are located here. On the corner of the alley and Pesochnaya Embankment is the Vyazemsky Garden - the remains of the park of the estate of the Vyazemsky Princes.

In the house number 8 behind the Vyazemsky garden was the workshop of the sculptor M.K. Anikushin ; On November 30, 1999, Anikushinskaya Alley , which runs from Vyazemsky Lane to Anikushinsky Square on Kamennoostrovsky Avenue [1] [2] [3] , was named after him.

Transport

Tram traffic is organized throughout the lane (route number 40).
