History
The initiative to form a sports organization, which would face the task of developing curling in Europe , was launched in November 1974 in Zurich ( Switzerland ) during a tournament with the participation of 6 national men's teams - Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, France, Italy and Norway. In March 1975, at a meeting of the International Curling Federation (ICF) representatives of these countries were invited to form within the ICF the European Curling Council ( European Council Curling , ECC). The initiative was supported and the newly formed organization was entrusted with holding the European Curling Championships . The ESS includes 9 national associations of European countries that at that time were members of ICF: England , Denmark , Italy , Norway , France , Germany , Switzerland , Sweden and Scotland . In the same year, the Netherlands joined the ESS.
In December 1975, in the French Megeve, a new sports structure held the first European championship among the men's and women's national teams.
In 1984, the Council was transformed into a federation, which received the current name.
Since 1983 European Junior Championships have been held, and since 2005 - among mixed teams.
