Story
Musical melodrama, based on the novel by Jose Zamora, which takes place in Spain at the very beginning of the XX century . At the Madrid Cabaret Theater "Chauntecleer", the performances of the young, beautiful and talented singer Charito are very popular with the public. Her fans - wealthy aristocrats and famous politicians - tease the singer with flowers and expensive gifts. Charito is in love with journalist Federico. Her mother is trying to warn her daughter by convincing her that Federico is only interested in money. Charito refuses to believe this until he accidentally catches his lover with the rich and noble Countess Carola. Insulted at her best feelings, Charito leaves the city hoping to forget Federico and find peace of mind. At a village festival, she meets a simple and unsophisticated young man Santi, who at first sight falls in love with her and invites her to become his wife. Charito reciprocates the young man and wants to completely change his lifestyle, but she is forced to hide the truth about herself from the young man, since the Santi family adheres to strict traditions and will not accept a cabaret singer in her family. By chance, Santi learns the truth about Charito from acquaintances, comes to her performance at Chauntecleer, and then throws herself into the sea. Charito was shocked and had no choice but to return to her former life in Chauntecleer, where at her new performance in one of the boxes she again saw Federico.
