Katcart [3] ( born Cathcart ) is a city in the Eastern Cape of South Africa . Named after Sir George Cutcart , Governor of the Cape Colony in 1852-1853. During the Eighth Frontier War, a small military post was located on the site where the city now stands. Then, when German colonists began to arrive in the region, in 1858 a village was founded here. In 1876, the government of John Molteno began work on connecting Cattarta railway with East London . The railway line was officially opened in 1879.
