Biography
His full name is Abul-Hasan Abdul-Jabbar ibn Ahmad ibn Abdul-Jabbar ibn Ahmad ibn Halil al-Hamazani al-Assadabadi. He lived in Baghdad until in 978 he was invited by the Buid vizier Ray , al-Sahib ibn 'Abbad (938–995), who patronized the mutazilites. Abdul-Jabbar was invited to teach fiqh , but he was soon appointed the chief qadi of the province, hence his nickname Kadi al-kudat (“judge of all judges”) [2] .
Abdul-Jabbar was a prominent representative of the Mutazilite Kalam . In fiqh, he followed the Shafi'i madhhab . At first he adhered to the Asharite teachings in the kalama, but then he switched to the position of mutazilites [2] .
In the early 1950s, the works of Abdul-Jabbar were discovered along with the writings of his direct students Abu Rashid al-Nishapuri (d. C. 1024) and Ibn Mattuwaih (d. 1076). Found works became the main source on the teachings of mutazilites [2] .
He died in 1025.
