Biography

He graduated from the University of Utrecht . He defended his thesis on the topic of time in the work of Akhmatova at the University of Amsterdam . He taught Russian literature at the University of Amsterdam and Groningen . He was friends with Joseph Brodsky . Lives in Amsterdam and The Hague .

Creativity

He translated poems by Annensky , Akhmatova, Mandelstam , I. Brodsky, the memoirs of Nadezhda Mandelstam , books by Andrey Platonov , from Dutch into Russian - verses by Guido Gesella , Martinus Neuhof . The author of a series of historical novels about Tyutchev - "Villa Bermond" (Prize P. Vyazemsky ), "Sonata" The Tempest ""; articles about translated poets, about the prose of Lydia Ginzburg , the poetry of Lev Losev , Boris Red [2] and others.
