Australian Italian Festival
The Australian Italian Festival is held annually in May in Ingham. This is one of the most popular events held not only in the city, but in almost all of northern Queensland. The festival celebrates the traditions of the local population, which comes mostly from Italian settlers. The first Italian immigrants arrived in Ingem in the 1890s and today, more than half of the city's population has Italian roots [2] .
During the festival, an open-air exhibition takes place (an exposition of household items, jewelry, dishes, etc., which were used during the years of the first settlements in this territory).
During World War II , all Italians living in Ingem were captured and detained in special centers until the end of the war. In honor of the release of Italians from custody, a parade through the streets of the city is being held as part of the festival.
Famous "children" of the city
In Ingem, such famous figures in the life of Australia were born as: Tracy Carro (journalist), Greg Dowling (athlete), Sam Bako (athlete), Lori Spina (athlete), Nick Euclid (athlete), as well as Arthur Fadden (thirteenth premier Minister of Australia ).
