Creation History
The unit is formed on the basis of the 7th airborne brigade of the 5th airborne corps . By order of the Supreme High Command of August 2, 1942, the 5th airborne corps was transformed into the 39th Guards Rifle Division , and its 7th airborne brigade was transformed into the 112th Guards Rifle Regiment.
Participation in the Great Patriotic War
The 112th Guards Rifle Regiment participated in the Battle of Stalingrad [2] .
On the night of October 1, 1942, the transfer of the 39th Guards Division to Stalingrad began. Major General N. I. Krylov, Chief of Staff of the 62nd Army, wrote:
" That night β¦. only one regiment was able to cross β the 112th Guards. The crossing cost no losses, which was already a rare success.
With the commander of the 112th Guards, Lieutenant Colonel V. A. Leshchinin, I had the opportunity to talk ... ... without much haste. From this conversation I made up the initial idea of ββthe entire division.
The 39th Guards was the sister of the 33rd and 35th divisions: it was also formed from airborne troops. Transferred to the Stalingrad direction from near Moscow in August, she fought as part of the 1st Guards Army on the Don, and then between the Don and the Volga and was withdrawn from the fighting north of Stalingrad only two days ago. The division fought there not badly, in recent weeks it has destroyed dozens of fascist tanks. But she herself lost a lot of people - there were 40-50 bayonets in their mouths. As it turned out later, in three of its rifle regiments and artillery, there were 3800 people, along with a battalion and sappers.
During the battles, the division received the usual march replenishment, and the paratroopers were now in the battalions and companies, as Leshchinin put it, βlarger or smaller, but only a layerβ. However, according to him, this layer continued to determine the combat capabilities of the units.
The lieutenant colonel was a patriot of the airborne troops and was proud that their pets kept the mark and in the infantry. About his regiment, he said:
- You can send anywhere. People are prepared to fight not only by the regiment, but also by small groups. β- Marshal of the Soviet Union N. Krylov Stalingrad border. - M .: Military Publishing House, 1984 - S.192-193.
About the battles in Stalingrad at the Krasny Oktyabr factory in late October 1942, the commander of the 112th Guards Rifle Regiment Vladimir Andreevich Leshchinin told:
β- Before the checkpoint of the second and third battalions, we counted forty to fifty corpses of fascist soldiers. Tanks broke here too. But they also dealt with tanks, undermined them. Having fought off, the battalion commanders first began to figure out what had become of the front line, where he is now. And he - where he was, all the companies survived. "
- Marshal of the Soviet Union N.I. Krylov Stalingrad border. - M .: Military Publishing, 1984 - p. 265.
In the October battles at the factory "Red October" took part the son of the regiment Misha Protasov. In one of the battles, when an infantry was thrown by the enemy at the position of 1 rifle battalion with the support of 10 tanks, he knocked out one tank with an anti-tank grenade, and then the second with a bottle of combustible mixture. In this battle, he was seriously injured, but was saved. [3]
In December 1942, 67 separate penal companies fought in the regiment.
The liberation of Left-Bank and Right-Bank Ukraine , ( Kharkov operation , Odessa operation ), participation in the Izyum-Barvenkovo ββoffensive operation , in Lublin - the Brest , Warsaw-Poznan and Berlin offensive operations - these are the stages of the regiment's combat path.
The courage and heroism of the soldiers of the 112th Guards Rifle Regiment is forever inscribed in the history of the Great Patriotic War.
Periods of joining the army:
- 08/12/1942 - 02/05/1943;
- 03/20/1943 - 07/07/1944;
- 06/15/1944 - 05/09/1945.
The 112th Guards Rifle Regiment ended the battle route on May 9, 1945 in Berlin .
