Biography

Johan Emanuel Wickström was born on November 1, 1789 in the city of Wenersborg in southwestern Sweden in the family of Johan Wickström and Carolina Charlotte Barman.

In 1806 he entered the legal department of Uppsala University . Then Vikstrom worked for several years in a local court, after which he decided to continue his studies and in 1815 he graduated from Uppsala University with a degree in medicine. Since 1817, Johan Emanuel is a doctor of medicine. From 1818 (after the death of Olof Svarts ) until his death in 1856, Wickstrom taught botany at the Bergian Botanical Gardens at Stockholm University , and was director of the Stockholm Botanical Museum. From 1821 to 1842, Wickstrom also taught at the Stockholm gymnasium. In 1823 he received the title of professor.

May 4, 1856 Johan Wickström died.

In 1820, Wickstrom was elected a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences , in 1821 - a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture.
