Biography

In 1911 he graduated from the 1st Moscow Cadet Corps . In July 1914 he graduated from the Mikhailovsky Artillery School in St. Petersburg [4] . Member of the First World War . Member of the civil war in Russia. In 1918 he graduated from the accelerated course of the Academy of the General Staff [4] .

He emigrated from Russia in connection with the defeat of the white movement . He worked on the CER [4] .

In 1923 he arrived in the United States [5] . Participated in public life [4] .

In 1925 he founded the St. Nicholas Orthodox Parish in Portland, Oregon , whose rector remained until 1938 [5] .

Then he was a teacher at St. Vladimir's Theological Seminary in New York . At one time he served there as an inspector.

In 1942, he was tonsured a monk at St. Tikhon Zadonsky Monastery in South Kanean , Pennsylvania.

In July 1947, when Leningrad Metropolitan Grigory (Chukov) came to America to reconcile Metropolitan Theophilos and his supporters with the Mother Church, Jonah met him at the New York Intercession Cathedral with a cross in the dignity of archimandrite [6] .

Served as keyman for Trinity Cathedral in San Francisco.

December 9, 1951 [7] at the San Francisco Trinity Cathedral consecrated bishop of Washington , vicar of the New York diocese. The consecration was performed by: New York Metropolitan Leonty (Turkevich) , Bishop of San Francisco John (Shakhovskoy) and Bishop of Alaska John (Zlobin) .

He was appointed rector of the St. Nicholas parish in Washington and became the head of the fundraising committee for the construction of the church, which honorary members included all the bishops of the metropolis and a number of famous figures [8] .

In May 1955, the construction of the foundation of the temple with the land laid in it from Russia was completed [3] .

He died on November 24, 1955 in San Francisco [9] .
