Career start

Doriva began his football career at São Paulo in 1991 under the guidance of the famous Brazilian coach Tele Santana . Doriva spent the next two seasons to get playing practice on loan at the Anapolina and Goiania clubs. Returning to São Paulo in 1993 and finally making his way to the base, Doriva won the Copa Libertadores and the Intercontinental Cup .

The following season, in 1995, Doriva, along with other leading Sao Paulo players, moved to the November XV club, which was bought by the president of TAM Airlines' largest South American airline, Rolim Amaro. Despite the successful start of the championship and management plans to fight for the championship, in the end, “November XV” flew out of the top division.

After a year of staying in “November XV”, Doriva returned to the elite by signing a contract with Atletico Mineiro [1] , where in 1997 he won the CONMEBOL Cup .

Porto

In January 1998, Doriva moved from Atletico Mineiro to Porto , signing a 4-year contract with the Portuguese club. The deal amounted to about $ 4 million [2] . On December 20, 1998, in a match with the Lisbon Sporting , Doriva scored the first and only hat-trick of his career, hitting his opponent’s gates from free kicks three times, and thereby ensured his team 3-2 [3] .

Sampdoria

Celta

Doriva moved to the Spanish " Celta " as a free agent in July 2000 [4] . The first matches for “Celta” Doriva held in the Intertoto Cup , where he played an active role in the victory of his team [5] . Doriva quickly became a solid base player, and on December 20, 2000 he scored his first goal with Celta in the away match against Numansia , although this did not help his team avoid the defeat (2: 4) [6] . In January 2001, the Brazilian was seriously injured, knocking him out of action for four months, and appeared on the field in only two final matches of the championship. In the 2001/02 season, Doriva lost his place in the main team of Celta, having played a total of 16 matches, mainly coming on as a substitute. In the first half of the 2002/03 season, Doriva even played only one game in the Spanish Cup .

Middlesbrough

Doriva was signed by Middlesbrough head coach Steve Maclaren on loan from Celta in January 2003 [7] . He made his debut for the club on April 5, 2003 in a victory game against West Bromwich (3-0) [8] . Having played five matches following the season results, on July 21, 2003, Doriva signed a one-year contract with Middlesbrough [9] [10] . In his first full season for Middlesbrough, Doriva became George Boateng 's main partner in the center of midfield, but then he began to compete with the rapidly progressing Stuart Downing and retrained from the winger Budevein Zenden . On February 29, 2004, Doriva entered the Middlesbrough starting lineup in the English League Cup final match against Bolton at the legendary Millennium and helped his team win 2-1 and win the first professional trophy [11] . Doriva scored his only goal for Borough on January 8, 2005 in the match of the 3rd round of the FA Cup with the Notts County (2: 1), equalizing in the 54th minute of the meeting [12] . In 2005, Doriva extended the contract with Middlesbrough for one year [13] , and in July 2006 left the team.

Return to Brazil

After leaving Middlesbrough in July 2006, Doriva signed a contract with Blackpool [14] , who played in League 1 at that time, but never played a match for Primorye. In January 2007, Doriva returned to Brazil and signed a contract with the America Club (SP) when he had heart problems. Doriva’s father and grandfather died of heart disease , so he decided to leave the game [15] . Subsequent tests showed that the diagnosis was made incorrectly and Doriva may continue to play football, but he decided not to resume his career.

International

Doriva made his debut for the national team on April 27, 1995. Doriva spent most of his international career as a stunt double for Brazil's captain Carlos Dunga , who played in the same position. As part of the national team, Doriva won the Confederations Cup 1997 , and also participated in the 1998 World Cup in France [16] . Doriva played only one game there, appearing on the field in the second match of the group stage with the national team of Morocco , substituting in the 68th minute instead of Cesar Sampaio [17] .

Coaching career

On August 12, 2016 he was appointed head coach of Santa Cruz ( Recife ) [18] . October 20, 2016, a day after the home match of the 32nd round of the Brazilian Championship 2016 “ Botafogo ” (0: 1), terminated the contract with the club by mutual agreement [19] .

On June 7, 2017, he was appointed head coach of Atletico Goianiense . The contract was signed until the end of the 2017 season [20] . Replaced on this post Marcelo Cabo [21] .
