Criticism
Regarding the film, the critic W wrote in “Theatrical Newspaper”:
“Domestic figures replaced by masks, the real situation - fantastic lush pavilions. Put the picture effectively. The director skillfully cultivates that saloon, pompous style, which the Russian screen of the city of Bower made famous for. You unwittingly compare these directors, and the primacy remains with the city of Bauer ” [3] .

The Projector Browser also rated the film with extreme restraint:
“... a common monotony of action, not going beyond the limits of rather pale scenes of jealousy, reconciliation, etc.” [3] .

A more detailed review of Lee in the Theatrical Newspaper appeared in October 1917 [4] . It noted both the flaws in the production of the picture, and its merits.
The painting is made in a patterned Moscow style. In the scenery one desire - to show your entire warehouse of furniture. There are some miserable achievements of the director: the only interesting thing is a group of men at the ball, watching the heroine with a glance. I make a reservation: from the technical, directing side, everything is done briskly, naturally, but there is nothing that would stop attention. However, a special reception of the program, undoubtedly inspired by directing, is striking: this is when the intimate experience given by the inscription is not actually transmitted by the actor, but is given to the guesses and fantasies of the viewer. For example, - "Faith was shaken." One can see “Faith”, which, after a short general gesture, directs the glance of a “large” person somewhere over the public. Read the "shock" from this fixed face. And such "meyerholds" (obviously, it came from his "Dorian Gray") are very frequent in "Yad" and, right, are not bad [3] .
