Interesting Facts
- Access to the Belarusian village of Semekhovichi (6.5 km to the west) is possible only through the territory of Ukraine (there is a kind of territorial “appendix” of Ukraine (the so-called “Gorynichsky ledge”) that extends into the territory of the Republic of Belarus and has remained since the times of the USSR ) or bypass - along forest roads.
- The village is located in the border zone - citizens of other states (except Ukraine) for staying in the village and its environs without permission can be detained, subjected to an administrative fine and deported.
- In the Pskov region of Russia , 724 kilometers to the north, there is a city with exactly the same name - Nevel .
- During World War I, Nevel was freed from the enemy on October 31, 1915 during a brilliant partisan operation led by Captain Stepan Georgievich Leontiev (1878-1915), a native of Mogilev. During the battle, he died and was posthumously awarded the Order of St. George of the 3rd degree. This was the second after 1770 and the last fact of being awarded an officer with such a high order in a relatively small rank. In honor of the liberation of Nevel in the Russian army in 1916, the 762th Nevelsky infantry regiment was named.
