Biography

The future creator of Detective Conan began painting from a young age: in the 1st grade, he won a drawing contest. In school, he dreamed of becoming a cartoonist, although his parents were against it.

After school, Aoyama decided to become a drawing teacher and entered the College of Art at the University of Nihon, where he met a graduate - Yutaka Abe, who worked as a cartoonist. Yutaka Abe took the young Aoyama as his assistant, planning to make him a mangaka. In the winter of 1986, Aoyama's work took part in the competition and won.

One of his first works was “Chotto Matte” (literally “Wait”), which was published in the weekly journal Shonen in the winter of 1987. Then the manga Wizard Kaito was released.

In the early 1990s, another Aoyama manga was published, Yaiba, which was inspired by the author in school, in kendo classes. In this manga, 24 volumes, in 1993 she won the Shogakukan Award .

In 1994, the first volume of the detective Conan, the author’s most famous work, was released. Before publication, the publisher asked the author to change his name in order to avoid confusion with the name of the anime series Conan - a boy from the future , however Aoyama refused to name his manga “Tantei Shonen Conan”.

In 2007, a statue dedicated to Edogawa Konan was erected in the hometown of mangaki, and the Gosyo Aoyama Museum was also opened. Detective Conan has been working on for more than twenty years.
