Personal life
Torgan was born in La Louviere , but grew up in Bren-les-Comtes , a small town in Wallonia . His first name was given to him by his parents in honor of the hero of the comic book " Traded ." In his family, everything is connected with football [7] . His mother Catherine, and father Thierry, also played football [7] . His father spent most of his career at the semi-professional club Luvieros from the Second Division of Belgium, as a defensive midfielder [7] . His mother played as a striker in the First Division of Belgium, but was forced to end her career in the third month of pregnancy with his older brother Eden [7] [8] [9] [10] [11] After the players' careers ended, his parents became sports professors [ 7] . Thierry resigned from his post in 2009 in order to devote more time to his children [7] .
Torgan has three brothers. His older brother, Eden , played for Lance’s main opponent in the North Derby - Lille Football Club. They were partners in the English club Chelsea . Two other brothers: Kilian (born 1995) and Ethan (born 2003). In 2017, Kilian also joined Chelsea, but at that time, Torgan had already left the club. Ethan has remained in Belgium and plays in the youth academy of the former Eden club " Tubize " [7] [9] [12] [13] .
Torgan and his three brothers lived with their parents in a comfortable environment. They had everything they needed to succeed in football [14] . The family lived “no more than three meters” from the football field, and the brothers often went to training, climbing through a small hole in the fence to develop and improve their skills [8] .
Club career
Lance
Torgan followed his older brother and at the very beginning of his career was in the youth team of the Belgian club Tubiz . At the age of 14, he was spotted by the French club Lance , while he played for Tubize in local tournaments. After Eden moved to Lille , his parents accepted the offer from Lance with the hope that educational institutions in France are better than in Belgium [14] . Azar’s father later admitted that the decision to allow Eden, and then Thorgan, to join the clubs of Northern France is the best solution, stating that “they are still so close to home and, at the same time, they are integrated into structures where they can grow in professionally, as in Belgium, unfortunately, the youth training system is poorly developed ” [8] . At the Lance Youth Academy, Thorgan played for the team under 16, along with players such as Joffrey Kondogby and Rafael Varan , who won the national championship under 16 in the 2008/09 season.
On April 7, 2010, Hazard signed his first professional contract, which was designed for three years until June 2013 [15] . Before the start of the 2010/11 season , Hazard trained with the core team. In the pre-season friendly matches, he scored a goal in a 1-1 draw with the Belgian club Ruselare [16] [17] . However, he began the season with the youth team in the amateur championship of France . He made his debut in the amateur league on August 8, 2010, substituting in a 2-0 victory match, “Drancy” [18] . After spending most of the season playing simultaneously with the reserve team in the amateur championship and the team under 19 in the Gambardell Cup. On May 9, 2011, Torgan was transferred to the main team for the match against Bordeaux , which was played on May 11. Ultimately, he never played a match for the main team, finished the 2010/11 season in reserve.
Before the 2011/12 season, Hazard was again upgraded to the main team on an ongoing basis and received number 22 [19] . He made his debut for the main team of “Lance” in the 1st round of the championship of France of the 2011/12 season against “ Reims ”, having replaced in the second half, where his team was defeated 0: 2 [20] .
Chelsea
On July 24, 2012, Chelsea confirmed on its website that the club had agreed with Lance on the conditions for the transfer of Thorgan Azar, shortly after signing his brother Eden from Lille [21] [22] . On August 17, 2012, Torgan made his debut for the Chelsea reserve team in a match against Manchester City , which ended with the score 0-0 [23] . On August 30, 2012, Hazard was leased for a long time to the Belgian Pro-League club Sülte Waregem [24] . This was done in order to allow the player to gain experience in the main club of the top division, and not play in the reserve [25] .
Sylte Waregem (rental)
On September 15, 2012, Torgan made his debut for the club for the first time in an away match against Oud-Heverle Leuven , leaving the main team, the match ended in a 1-0 victory [26] [27] . October 31, he scored his first goal, which became victorious at the goal of “ Charleroi ”, the match ended in victory 4: 1 [28] . On May 16, 2013, in the match against Brugge , Hazard made a significant contribution to the victory of his team: the Belgian scored a goal from the penalty spot and gave two assists, the match ended with the score 5: 2 [29] .
On July 15, 2013, Chelsea and Sylte-Waregem extended the rental of Torgan for another season, that is, he will be renting until June 30, 2014 [30] . On July 27, Hazard scored the ball with a free-kick and gave an assist, which led to the victory in the match against Liers (2: 1) [31] . On August 2, Sylte Waregem announced that Hazard would replace experienced defender Davy De Fou and become the new captain of the club. This change was met with great anger by the club's fans, which is why Hazard returned the title of team captain to the defender less than 24 hours after receiving it [32] [33] . November 28 scored a goal in a match of the Europa League against Wigan Athletic , which ended with a score 2: 1 [34] . On August 16, in the German Cup match against Homburg , which ended with a score of 3: 1, Hazard made his debut with Borussia, leaving in the 78th minute of the match and replacing Branimir Hrgota [36] . September 24, in a match against Hamburg , Hazard first appeared in the starting lineup of his team in the Bundesliga match, Torgan spent 71 minutes on the field, after which he was replaced by Fabian Johnson [40] .
On February 23, 2015, Torgan agreed to transfer to the Monchengladbach Borussia on an ongoing basis from July 1 of this year. The Belgian signed a contract that lasted until June 2020, an agreement was also included on a fixed amount of the buyback of a player from Chelsea. The German club paid about 8 million euros [41] . During one of the transition interviews, Hazard confirmed that Chelsea has a buyback function and would still like to return to Stamford Bridge in the future [42] .
Continuing to the club
On August 8, in his first game after a full transfer, Hazard scored a goal in the match against St. Pauli [43] . After the resignation of the team’s head coach Lucien Favre , who lost the first five matches in the Bundesliga, and the appointment of André Schubert, Torgan could not find a place in the starting lineup [44] . Only on December 20, Hazard first came out from the first minutes with a new coach, this happened in a duel with Darmstadt 98 , but the Belgian player still could not gain the confidence of the coach, and he preferred to use Ibrahim Traor on the right flank of midfield [45] . Hazard finished the season with four goals, two of which were scored in the match against Hertha on April 3, 2016 [46] .
Intending to increase his playing time for himself in the new season [47] , Hazard successfully starts it, having issued his first hat-trick of his career on August 24 in a match against the Swiss club Young Boys in the second round of the Champions League playoffs (6: 1) , it is noteworthy that in this match Brazilian Rafael scored another hat-trick [48]
In the fall, rumors began to arise about Chelsea’s intention to activate Azar’s buyback option, as this option expires at the end of 2016 [49] [50] , however, sports director of Borussia Max Eberl claimed that from the side of Chelsea when selling a player in fact, there was no clear interest in his future return [51] . Hazard himself, commenting on these rumors, said: “I signed a contract here because I want to play here” [52] . On September 28, Hazard scored his first goal in the Champions League, opening an account in the match against Barcelona held at Borussia Park , but the club from Mönchengladbach failed to win: the Catalans scored two unanswered goals and won [53] .
